My Design Philosophy

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love simple beauty. Each of us, although we may have similar styles, will like, appreciate, and be able to see the potential in different things. For me, when I am surrounded by the things I find beautiful, I feel inspired - to write, to read, to create, to do something with my life and use the talents I have been given to give something back to this world. I want to leave an impression or even just a thought or feeling that may not have been here before. We can all leave the world a better place than we found it, in whatever way we choose. For me I hope to leave beauty wherever I go - in my children, in my husband, in my friendships and associations with others and in the world that surrounds us. I want my house to feel like home. Where children play on the carpet, where we snuggle up on the sofa and read books together, where we dance silly around the kitchen, where we entertain our friends for dinner and where others will always feel welcome.

Less is almost always more. Simple is always beautiful. Fresh flowers go with everything. And even though my family insists that white it is not a color - it will always be my favorite! Whatever home feels like for you - that should be your design style. If you don't like it, it doesn't matter that Ms. Interior Designer does. There is no point in decorating in a style that does not feel right for you. It is your home after all. So get inspired by others, I am everyday, but make it your own. If it makes you smile, if it inspires you - it is beautiful. That is my design motto - surround yourself with the things that you love, that make you smile, that invite you to spend time in that room, that make you want to peek in as you walk past. I believe that it is possible to have beauty, function and children all under the same roof.

My husband and I chose to have a family of 5 children. The raising of children takes money. (I cannot think of a better investment in the future) I believe that you can have a beautiful home while sticking to a budget. It can actually make the process more fun and be the "mother of invention" as they say. Can't afford it? Find a way to do it cheaper and increase your talents along the way! And if you really don't know where to start - get inspired. Read blogs, google pictures, collect paint samples, cut pages out of magazines (yours, not the libraries) start to get a feel for the kinds of things you like. Begin to recognize what you like about a certain picture or room as it is not always the picture in its entirety: Is it the wall color, or the furniture placement, the accessories, or maybe even just the feel? Then, ask for help if you need it to put it all together. Have fun and love your home.
